Robert Richard Puente was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1991. Representative Puente is Chair of the House Natural Resources Committee and serves on the House Local Ways and Means Committee. He is also a member of the Texas Water Advisory Council.
Upon being sworn into the House in 1991, Representative Puente was appointed to the House Natural Resources Committee, where he continues to serve. He was instrumental in the passage of the Edwards Aquifer Authority legislation and the establishment of the Edwards Aquifer Authority's elected board, as well as SB 1, implementing a comprehensive water plan for our state. Representative Puente's expertise in water legislation has proven to be a valuable asset in preserving the future of San Antonio's water resources.
In addition to his legislative committee assignments, Representative Puente serves on the steering committee of the House Research Organization. Representative Puente is a 1979 graduate of St. Mary's University in San Antonio with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from the University of Texas Law School in 1982.
Representative Puente has been married to Carmen Muniz Puente for 14 years. They have three children, two sons Alec Robert and Luke Michael and one daughter, Liana Theresa. Representative Puente is active in the San Antonio community in a number of different organizations and has received a number of awards for his service.
